Munich to Dachau at a glance
Dachau is part of the Munich public transport network (MVV). Most visitors travel by train to Dachau station and continue by bus to the memorial site in the district of Dachau-Ost. The memorial site gives about 25 minutes for the train from Munich main station to Dachau station and about 10 minutes for the bus. Treat both as guide values, not as guaranteed journey times.
The visitor address of the memorial site is Pater-Roth-Str. 2a, 85221 Dachau. If you come by car, the address of the visitor parking lot is Alte Römerstraße 73. Neither is the postal address of the administration, so use these when planning your route.
This guide is independent and is not part of the memorial site. Timetables and fares below are as of October 2026. Please check the current connections before you travel.

The route by public transport
The connection in the order you travel it.
Munich main station to Dachau
Take the S-Bahn line S2 toward Dachau or Petershausen. Regional trains toward Ingolstadt or Treuchtlingen also stop in Dachau. The memorial site gives about 25 minutes to Dachau station.
Dachau station to the memorial site
From the station, take bus 726 toward Saubachsiedlung and get off at the stop KZ-Gedenkstätte. The ride takes about 10 minutes. Dachau's municipal transport company lists 726 as a line running every 10 minutes. This does not mean the same frequency all day on Sundays and public holidays, so check the timetable for your travel day.
From the bus stop to the visitor center
The bus stop is barrier-free. At the visitor center you hire the audio guide and buy tickets for the public tours at the information desk.
The bus network in Dachau changed on 14 December 2025. Line 716 was discontinued, and lines 717 and 718 were merged into line 724. Bus 726 continues to serve the memorial site. Older route descriptions may still mention the former lines.
Tickets and fares in 2026
For the journey from Munich described above, the memorial site names the fare zones M-1, which cover both the S-Bahn and the connecting bus. A ticket for zone M alone is not enough.
| Ticket | Valid for | Price 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Single ticket M-1 | One adult, one journey | €6.40 |
| Single day ticket M-1 | One adult, all day | €11.70 |
| Group day ticket M-1 | 2 to 5 people, all day | €21.20 |
| Child single ticket | One child aged 6 to 14 | €2 |
| Child day ticket, whole network | One child aged 6 to 14, all day | €3.80 |
A return trip with two single tickets costs €12.80, so the single day ticket at €11.70 is already the lower price for one adult. For two to five people traveling together, the group day ticket covers everyone.
Since 1 January 2026, a single day ticket also lets you take your own children and grandchildren aged 6 to 14 with you free of charge, in any number. You can take up to 3 other children, and nieces and nephews count as other children. Keep in mind that the memorial site advises against visits with children under 13.

By car and parking
From Munich, drive via the A8 and B471, or via the A9, A92 and B471. The memorial site is signposted in the district of Dachau-Ost. Parking capacity is limited, and the lot is at times full.
The memorial site lists parking fees of €3 for cars and motorcycles and €5 for buses and camper vans. Cards are not accepted, so bring cash. The memorial site's directions page does not mention a seasonal exemption. The city of Dachau describes the lot as subject to a fee only from March to October and free from November to February. Have coins ready either way.
If you combine your visit with the town, the city names parking in front of the palace and the parking garage on Wieninger Straße. More on the Dachau Palace page.

Luggage, timing and accessibility
The visitor center has only a very small number of lockers. The memorial site recommends leaving luggage at Munich main station if possible, so plan your visit before checking in or after checking out of your hotel.
The memorial site is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and closed on 24 December. Last entry to the former crematorium area is at 4:30 pm. Allow about half a day for the grounds and exhibitions, plus the journey from Munich. If you want to join a public tour in English at 11 am or 1 pm, buy your ticket at the information desk at least 45 minutes beforehand, as explained on the guided tours page.
The bus stop is barrier-free, while the gravel on the outdoor grounds makes moving around harder. Wheelchairs and electric mobility scooters can be borrowed, and ramps lead to the main exhibition and other buildings. Details are on the memorial site visit page.
Continuing to the town of Dachau
The memorial site and the old town are separate destinations. From Dachau station, buses 719 and 720 run to the stop Rathaus (town hall), close to the old town and the palace. The town's tourist information is at Karlsberg 1a, in the Zollhäuschen, the small toll house. It is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, and on market Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm.
